AUSTIN, Texas —University of Texas freshman guard Sterling Gibbs has elected to transfer following the completion of the spring semester, he announced Tuesday. Gibbs saw action in 30 of UT’s 34 games this year and averaged 2.6 points and 0.7 assists in 7.5 minutes per contest this season.

Gibbs converted 24-of-53 (.453) field goals, including 13-of-35 (.371) from three-point range, and 17-of-22 (.773) free throws during the year. He posted a career-high 14 points while converting 5-of-5 field goals, including 3-of-3 threes, in 18 minutes during the home win against Nicholls State (Dec. 13).

“I’ve had a great year at Texas,” Gibbs said. “I’ve improved as a basketball player and as a person during my time here. If my decision had to do with basketball only, I would not be leaving Texas. But my decision is family-related and involves more than basketball.”
