The Ole Miss Rebels come into this third week at 2-0. The Rebels are fresh off a routing of South East Missouri St. and the opening night thriller against Vanderbilt. Ole Miss has an offense that has gotten better every week with every possession and they have a young defense with highly touted recruit Robert Nkemdiche bringing some swag and confidence to this young group. The Longhorns are coming off a terrible showing in Provo, Utah against BYU. The rushing attack for the Cougars could not be stopped and the Longhorn defense looked un-prepared and unwilling to make adjustments.
Over the weekend Head Coach Mack Brown made an adjustment, he announced that Manny Diaz was no longer the defensive coordinator and that Greg Robinson would be his replacement. Robinson was a part of the coaching staff of the National Championship defense in 2009. I would look for Coach Freeze’s offense to take advantage of the Texas Defense that looks to be in a crossroads right now. Both teams highly touted offenses that can score quickly. Ole Miss’s quarterback Bo Wallace is similar to BYU’s quarterback in the sense the team goes as far as he will take them. Wallace is not a runner but has a good arm and is the leader of this offense. Don’t be surprised if you see the second string quarterback Barry Burnetti, he is more of a runner and can be a threat against this Texas defense that showed they struggled against a running quarterback. Right now I feel Texas is on the ropes defensively, as much as I think Robinson will have this team ready, I do think there will be some things slip through the cracks. I expect to see a Big 12/ SEC shootout this weekend at DKR and Hotty Toddy will get the win.
